tl;dr: Dear Criminal Minds people...
... please, if you're using a special terminology including a German term, please, God, look up the correct pronounciation and teach your actors, cause the first time you said the word it sounded Swahili to me and when I actually saw it written down, my eyes bugged out when it suddenly made sense. And that threw me completely out of an episode that was geared towards a very specific dramatic effect that got totally shafted because of my preoccupation.
And please, tell me that is not the way chess-playing peeps all over the world pronounce it.
That's all, sorry for the rant.

Most of the time when shows try and use German to make themselves look worldly and intelligent (hello NCIS LA) I just laugh at it, cause at least we get subtitles... I looked Zugzwang up and the pronounciation recording at dict.cc is not quite what it really should be but not as abysmal as the onscreen version. And I'd think the CM-nerds would go the extra mile for something like that. LOL, I get hung up on the weirdest things. I was actually pleasantly surprised how well the 'Germans' did in 'Everybody hates Hitler' probably because they had a real German with them that could teach them properly. I could understand them without the subtitles.
I've been loving the past couple of seasons with CM a lot (except for the killing-Maeve part, that was over the top drama for a character that would have had so many more miles in her. But yeah...
