How is it that I find myself unable to express my thought in comments only, but am compelled to write up a whole rapsheet of BLAH for our dear show lately?
Still, I'll try to get my feelings on track and put them out there... this episode left me kind of in a haze. In all the good and all the bad ways. I was anticipating the bad ones actually, because I knew that we had just that little bit too much left to wrap up, so two horsemen 'ganked' in one episode HAD to be lacking in some ways and it did. Maybe I'm a sucker for great whee-bangs, but Cas swooping in to save the day was a bit... too coincidental and made Pestilence look like kind of a wuss. As well as the 'civilian-rescue-mission' where they didn't even consider to check whether the ones they let out were affected or not and C4... really?? I mean, I know the American people have a little bit of a penchant for weaponry (no offense) but C4 lying on the street somewhere? Hmmmm... so even prolific hunter-contacts that Bobby would undoubtly have I don't see them whipping up enough explosives to incinerate a warehouse good and proper in the course of half a day. And the egg dance about Death's location, ... yeah, short of setting up a refund for non-rendered services, I can't imagine why Crowley must have done that. Devil's in the Detail here, I presume.
So, some of the solutions in this were altogether too easy for my tastes, but I get it, we need a wrap and we're going to get it. Damn boy are we going to get it.
*takes deep breath*
So, for those of you who've gotten over my rant, prepare now for the eternal squee.
BOBBY... seriously, it's cheesy and it's predictable (or not) but HE'S WALKING. And well, ... well. Kinda. Besides the apocalypse and all. I hollered with laughter at the comic relief that silly little kissy scene brought. The matching Winchester-Face-of-Eternal-Doom was most awesome. AND DON'T YOU DARE KILL BOBBY! HE'S GOD
Pestilence... wow, I really fricking adored him at first sight, even though I wished they'd had taken slightly better care with the icky stuff, it DIDN'T look anywhere near believable. OtoH, the bear-suicide-comic-style-impression wasn't so bad after all. ICKY. Ehehehe, and he was COOL.
Crowley... OH MY DEAR I COULD SMISH YOU TO ALL HELL. But how is it that I see our dear most-favoured demon as the big villian next season in which the Winchesters proceed to Hunt-the-Bureaucrat for not coughing up that tiny little soul again AFTER THE FACT. I don't want to, cause I want Crowley to stay the most perfectly goody demon of all time, but I can't help thinking...
Castiel... they really did a number on you like mad, did they? Carefully deconstructing the only angel in team-free-will as if the membership requires relinquishing any godlike powers... now there's a thought, you have truly fallen now, have you?? Let's just hope Dean doesn't get into a traffic accident now, of all things, eh? Still, I really want to see you again. Flailing and human and learning life from the best of them. Also, does anyone else think Bobby's got a two billion trust fund rabbited away somewhere?? Just saying...
OHHH~HHHHHH Death. Seriously, talk about an entrance. Talk about style. Talk about being a slick god-fathery mobster eating deep-dish in Chicago. Talk about Being Death to God's Life, dark to light, end to beginning, down to up, yin to yang... am I blaspheming myself into an epic relationship of slashy destiny?? *cough*
Still, Dean faced with Death... Seriously THE AWESOME. I absolutely loved the directing and the actors and can we bake him into pie and sell him at Mrs Lovett's? (death not dean obviously..)
Sam... oh boy, ... oh my boy, honour whom it is due, urgently. Accepting fate, accepting his weakness, and his strength and pulling through what he started. Living up to expectations... and exceeding (one of the best lines EVER) In the end it all comes back to you, doesn't it. Still, we're not letting you go, not for the world.
Which actually brings me to Dean. Trickster taught Sam a lesson in death, but maybe he should have taught Dean. Because ultimately, it's always about Dean letting go, isn't it? And not being able to, ever until this very very moment. This inability ingrained into his very being will save the world and damn it.
The power of Love they said, hmm?? Yes, your brother might be destined for great things, but he will get nowhere without your acceptance. So it all comes back to you... and you will not let him go, Dean, will you? Not for the world...?
Love the episode for acknowledging the fact that one brother is nothing without the other, both of them are everything to each other and none of them will save the world. Hmmmm here's a thought.
Rant over. Go play, I wanna hear your thoughts.
