err... Neilsen box. It's how ratings are figured. Only 25,000 homes in the US have one which is approx .02% of households with televisions here. They do some fancy ratios and etc and viola you get how many people watch different shows based on that sampling.

Well, not so much for CW shows past season 1. CW makes nada aka in the red... the reason SPN, SV, OTH, etc are on the air is because the CW's parent companies (CBS, WB) make a ton off of them via DVD's, syndication, out of country, downloads, etc.

Which is why (especially as SV is going off the air) SPN is 99.9% guaranteed at least one more season. It's more than likely up to J2 on signing contracts to keep going with the show now.
